‘Look Out For Me…Please’

The people around you, need you.
A tiny voice does cry out.
But if you don’t stop to ask them;
‘How are you?’,
And wait for the real answer to that question,
You will never actually know.

People can be so good at just pushing forward and getting on with life; upholding their responsibilities, maintaining their roles and most especially, smiling through it all despite the pain.
Don’t get me wrong, their strength to carry on is admirable, but sometimes, we really ought to make the extra effort to truly be the keeper of our brothers and sisters, and check on them to see how things are going.

Particularly those whom we haven’t heard from in a while, or those whom we know may have suffered a hardship, such as job loss, failure, broken relationship, or even loss of a loved one – we need to be there for them.
We need to be unselfish with our time and either pick up the phone, or even set up a physical date to have a good chit-chat with them, allowing them to release their well-kept and composed emotions!

The bible tells us in Romans 12:15 to rejoice when another rejoices, but also to weep when another weeps.
What we learn here is the ability to empathise with one another, but also, God is highlighting the importance of the fact that He doesn’t ever want anybody to deal with their problems or misfortune, or traumatic events alone.

He wants us right there by their side, using the Jesus in us to carry them through.
Of course God does His work from above too, but remember that we’re His hands and feet on earth? So it’s crucial that we make ourselves available for these people to physically feel Jesus through our care and looking out for them.

Don’t worry, sometimes you may not know what to say in response to what they share with you, and other times, a response may not even be required, but be confident in this; that the spirit of Jesus that lies within you, will be felt by them, and that is what matters most.
They need to be reminded of the love and strength that they can draw from Jesus, as often as possible. So don’t depend on what you can do as an individual, but rather trust that Jesus will do the work in them, to heal them bit by bit.

Ensure you pray before your conversation; that God will take over the entire encounter, and His Spirit of peace and love will fill the atmosphere between you and the brother/sister. Ask Him to direct your speech if any is required and ask that He will restore their faith in His word (if lost at all).

Also  pray for them after, and remember them consistently in prayer; that God will restore their joy, strength and hope, and that they will never feel alone.

Yes the talking is great for their healing process, as they are able to release more and more of that hurt, but our prayers; our intercession on their behalf will also reach the throne of mercy, because in being like Jesus, when our brothers and sisters are weak in their faith, we ought to be strong! Strong in the spirit, to pray for them and speak to God on their behalf to restore their hope, faith and trust in the Lord God Almighty.

I know sometimes we don’t want to approach people when we see them seeming ‘okay’, because we don’t want to take their smile away and remind them of the pain, but isn’t it better to make sure that their smile is really a smile, rather than a mask?

Our brothers and sisters will surely heal, because the stripes (wounds) of Jesus have that power! – (Isaiah 53:5) And the word of God also promises to heal broken hearts in Psalm 147:3.
But we have a part to play in it too; we must make sure that we encourage their hearts to be open to God; not resenting God, and truly receptive of God’s word that says;

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
[Jeremiah 29:11]

Let’s be our siblings’ keepers – they need us.

My Gift; My Service

Let’s read:

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”
[1 Peter 4:10-11]

Okay, so let’s pick this apart a bit.
A few things stood out to me when reading this;
Gift
Service
God.

Gift

So a gift (according to the Oxford dictionary definition) is;

  1. a thing given willingly to someone without payment,
  2. a natural ability or talent.

God has willingly given each of us a gift (or even multiple gifts [plural]), without us paying a single penny for it, and He graciously and carefully designed these gifts when He was creating us, therefore we find that they are things we naturally flourish in and are talented in.

Now look at this, though many of us may have a gift that seems the same on the outside e.g. the ability to sing/dance/draw etc. – it is still a very different and unique gift that God gave to YOU for a reason!
So I guess that’s the first thing we should address – we should never see our gifts as something un-special, or common, or something that someone else can easily do!
We have to realise that in being fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), God has knitted us together purposefully, knowing exactly what qualities and abilities He has put in us that will complement our gift in order to make it Different and Great!
No one will ever use your gift like you can, and for that reason I need you to know and believe that it is Special, Unique, and most importantly NEEDED!

Service

Your Gifts Birth your Service on this earth.
And as mentioned above, friend, the service that your gift brings, is Needed.

“…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
[Matthew 20:28]

One of Jesus’ names is ‘The Son Of Man’, it describes the fact that Jesus came to earth to serve, therefore in being like Christ, service to others is a major part of our lives!
It is therefore very important for us to truly tap into the talent that we have, no matter what it is.
The only way we can truly thrive on this earth, and be ‘in our element’, and fulfil the purpose of God for our lives, is by using our God-given gifts and using them well!
The bible tells us that we ought to be ‘stewards of God’s grace, in its various forms’ – so this says two things;
1 – That our service is important because we represent God in our communities and in whatever we are doing.
2 – That God’s grace can be displayed in ‘various forms’, therefore we must appreciate that we each have something different, and something authentic to offer with our gifts.

You see, many of us bury the talent or the skills we have because we feel like the field is already occupied or overpopulated!
But this is definitely the wrong idea, if we read Matthew 25:14-30, we see that the servant who buried his talent ended up losing it, because he displayed an irresponsible and ungrateful attitude!
None of us want to lose what God has given us.
So stop thinking about others, be thankful for the gift He has graced you with, and step forth with your gift and begin to serve with it.

If you sing, you better do re mi away.
If you’re a poet, please word play till kingdom come!
If you’re a make-up artist, friend you better decorate those faces like your life depends on it!

Pardon my dramatic sentences, but I just want us to appreciate how important it is for us to NOT be afraid, and NOT compare ourselves to others, and just go for it, because the world needs what we have inside of us.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
[Matthew 5:14-16]

God

Let us thank Him everyday for our gift and ask Him to refresh and revive it and increase our anointing in Jesus’ name!

The verse we read at the beginning talks about ‘the strength God provides’ and this is one of the most important things to remember.
Our help and our strength comes from the Lord God Almighty – it is He who enables us to use our Gifts in the best way possible.
Therefore we shouldn’t ever try to do it all on our own, neither should we do it for personal praise or recognition.
The gift that we have is one that should be offered back to God, for Him to bless it, and direct us at all times to know exactly how we should put it to use, so that in all things His may be praised.

I pray that you will enjoy your gifts, and keep them alive by using them as much as you can to bless and impact others.
Friend, I encourage you to Love your gift; love the fact that God has given it to you, and love the fact that God has given you the opportunity to use it (that special thing), no matter how unorthodox, to Glorify His name, through Christ Jesus.

Please Please, don’t ever stop using your gift, God has given me this message for you, saying;
‘Do the best you can do with it, and watch how I myself will build and improve You.’

Remember, the Gift wasn’t given by mistake.

Keep the Faith, Don’t Stop Believing
God Bless you.

The Heart of Jesus

Let’s read the scriptures:

“”For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
[Matthew 25:35-40]

Say this prayer with me;

‘Lord Jesus,
Enable me to truly Love like You, Help like You, Teach like You and Serve like You.
Give me Your heart Lord Jesus; a heart for the people, a heart for my neighbours; for my brothers and sisters.
Help me to show and feel a genuine and true love towards everyone I come across, and give me the courage to reach out, and spread Your love to those whom I don’t know personally.
Help me Lord Jesus to see You in each individual, and show them mercy, kindness and warmth, at all times.
In Your precious name I pray,
Amen.’

Friends, we have a role.
We have an important part to play as the body of Christ on earth.
Not only do we have a duty to look after those nearest and dearest to us, but we must also reach out to those in our communities, in the world around us – near or far, and share a piece of Jesus with them.

It’s time for us to look for a way to make a difference in society, and let the world begin to experience the love of God through our selfless actions.
It isn’t for us to gloat or boast or be proud, but it is for us to truly make this world a better place, and do these things as though they were unto Jesus.

Join me today in creating a Compassion Plan (CP); (your own personal way of extending a hand of love to those who are less fortunate).
Here are the steps:

  1. Seek out someone to help – it could be an individual, a group of people, or an organisation (choose whoever you want, but make sure it’s a worthy cause and that you are able to share the Love of God actively)
  2. Identify how you can help them in a meaningful way
  3. Pray for God to enable you and show you what to do
  4. Decide and set up a way that you will help
  5. Tell someone else, for accountability
  6. Do it and Commit to it! And encourage friends and family to join you (or even create their own CP).

Remember that we aren’t limited to giving just money, but also prayer, time, and many other good things too.
I pray that God will enable us all to take up the roles that He has created for us from the beginning of time, and that we will fill in the gaps that exist, with our acts of love and service.
Let’s be excited to care for the world around us.

On this earth, let us be the hands and feet of Jesus.

No Chill When He Spills!

May God have no chill when He blesses you!  (AMEN!)
Haha! What a prayer!!! 😂

[Very quick side note: for anyone who doesn’t quite understand what is meant by the term ‘no chill’, it simply refers to ‘not holding back’ – so in this context, it refers to God going all out and not holding back when He blesses you. (Yep, now you can say a heftier Amen!)]

Can you imagine this though?
This is basically what is spoken of in Psalm 23:5 – ‘My cup  O V E R F L O W S’…

Simply filling the cup to the top isn’t enough for God, no way!
He looks at that cup as a limitation and says “No thank you cup, you can’t tell me how much I’m going to pour out onto my child, I’ll decide myself when it’s enough!”

That my friend, is why your cup runs over.

And as if that isn’t already enough, the bible tells us that He places you in the midst of your enemies;

“You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies…”
[Psalm 23:5]

And chooses to anoint/bless/fill you up right there!

“…you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.”
[Psalm 23:5]

Now there are a few more things to look at in this verse, and we can definitely draw power, strength and confidence from them.

Firstly, why does God choose to prepare that table in the midst of our enemies?
I mean these are people who don’t like us, and most definitely don’t care to see us winning!
Well look at this, Almighty God uses this to display His Power and Authority.
In case these enemies/haters/oppressors get too big for their boots, God first shows them that though they may bark loudly, and appear ‘strong’, they are truly powerless over your life, your destiny and anything concerning you.
He alone has the final say over your life and so it doesn’t matter what or whom stands against you. (Have a look at Romans 8:31).

Now the anointing itself represents Blessing!
I’m sure that’s the main thing we gather from this verse, but actually here are some other things God is saying to us:

“I am protecting you”.
It doesn’t matter how many people may stand around, seeking to tear you down – the Lord God is covering you now and forevermore.
He is your strong tower (Proverbs 18:10), your fortress and your rock (Psalm 18:1-3)!

“I Love you”.
(What more is there to expand on this one? He adores you, that’s all).
John 3:16, Romans 5:8

“Focus on me”.
Many times we get consumed with so much negativity around us, that we allow fear to paralyse us to a point where we forget the power of God’s light in the midst of darkness.
Well God is a respecter of no man (Acts 10:34), so regardless of every wicked attempt to make you fail or fall – God still does what He has promised to do, and that is keep you (Psalm 121:7).

“You are mine”.
(Isaiah 43:1)
How precious is it to know that God claims us as His own, and puts His mark upon us?
God doesn’t only bless us with things we need on this earth, but it should warm our hearts that He shows His everlasting love for us and makes it known that we are special to Him. In this verse, God embraces us.

Now with all of this to take in, can we just stop to Praise God quickly…
He is so Good! So Kind! And so Faithful!

We serve a God who is bigger and greater and larger than life itself, therefore we must adopt His confidence, as we are made in His very image (Genesis 1:27), and we must not be scared, nor hindered by the presence of enemies! Not now, not ever.

Just let that cup flow friend, let it flow flow flow, and sometime soon, we’ll speak about what to do with the overflow…

Keep the Faith, Don’t Stop Believing,
God Bless you.

Another Shot?

No, not that kind of shot!
I mean do you want to have another go/try/chance/opportunity at the thing you said you’d do in 2017?

Yes? Great!

Well firstly, let’s evaluate – how did January go for you?
Before we take steps to fix something, we have to know what’s wrong with it, so I want us to honestly assess the month of January in terms of the goals we set for ourselves.
Let us look at:

  • What went well?
  • What could have been better?
  • Ways to improve.

We all walked into the New Year with dreams, goals, good intentions and aspirations, but we’re on day 32, and without a doubt, a lot has happened.

Some things you won’t have bargained for may have popped up and distracted you or thrown you off your tracks.
People (sometimes the closest ones to you) may have discouraged you and made you feel like ‘you will never change’.
Circumstances may have simply not permitted it.

Does this mean, we should just give up?
No way!
Let us be courageous, ignore what people have said, shake off our emotions, stop feeling sorry for ourselves and Try Again.

Let’s read Romans 6. This isn’t to say that we’re all trying to change from a particular sin, but let us take context from it.

It tells us that in becoming aware of something that isn’t right, we shouldn’t just continue in that way, hoping that we can enjoy God’s grace, despite doing what we know is wrong and requires a change. Rather, we must rid ourselves of it. We should desire to become a new creation, because Christ has enabled this by dying for us. He allows us to be saved from our old ways and no longer be a slave to sin, addiction or any bad habit that we may have had!

Equally for those of us who decided that this year we wanted to take up a positive task, the bible tells us not to get tired of doing good;

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
[Galatians 6:9]

So we’re all on the same page about trying again, whether we’re trying to move away from something, or take on a new task/service – it doesn’t matter if January didn’t go to plan, we have the chance to start afresh. Right now!

Let’s head back to our evaluation questions.

What went well? When we’re looking at this question, let us look properly, because some of us are really hard on ourselves.
I want you to identify times when you achieved aspects of your goal or in fact succeeded in doing what you said you would do or not do (e.g. be on time to church, or not argue with a friend/parent/spouse). Acknowledge that you did well here, and expand on it… Look at the details of what happened in that instance to allow the occurrence of your desired outcome, make a note of it and then replicate it each time you get the chance. This way, you’re moving closer to consistently reaching your goals.

What could have been better? Pay attention to the fact that this doesn’t ask you for what was bad, because asking for what was bad simply points it out and leaves it in the air (#unhelpful).
However, when you’re looking at what could have been better, done better, said better etc, the idea is that you identify areas where you may have tried less, or fallen back into the old habit and again, you should explore why it could have happened. Then create practical steps that will help ensure that you avoid it happening again.

Example: I barged a woman on my way to university because I was in a rush, but my goal was to be more polite and calm when using public transport.

Going back, I’ll evaluate that I woke up late, and that was because I slept late the night before, so I was in a rush in the morning, which made me grumpy already, and meant that I was charging through the station and not in the mood to even apologise to someone I pushed.

Yes, this will take a good amount of thought-processing, but the idea is to eliminate things that will cause us to do what we don’t want to do. Or even prevent us from doing good.

Now, in expanding on what went well and what could have been better, we have already looked at some ways that we could improve on working towards our goals,
But let’s look at a few more key Ways to improve

The first thing I want us to do is be serious about trying again.
In fact that may have been your issue from the start – that you didn’t really believe in what you were doing.

Well look, first step – take it seriously.

That means;

  • Don’t premeditate failure
  • Don’t create sub-standards for ‘just in case’
  • And don’t make fun of it! – (Some of us make a joke of our goals, probably as a defence mechanism in case they don’t work out – that’s not good enough).

We must truly believe in what we want to do and in fact the best thing is to put God right at the centre of it, because the bible tells us that in whatever we plan, it is God that directs/establishes our footsteps;

“The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.”
[Proverbs 16:9].

In addition to this, we can ask for help and accountability from those around us (the right people), but above all, ask God for direction and guidance.

Ask Him to first clarify the vision/goal/dream/desire. Tell Him that you want to see it clearly, so you’re able to know exactly what you’re going to do with it.

When you get the answer, Write It Down… Write out your goal as you’ve been inspired to fulfil it.

In Habakkuk 2:2-3, God describes the power that there is in scribing a vision, He says two things that we can take and apply to writing our goals – when we write them clearly, we will know exactly what we want to do, and also though it may not happen immediately, we should have faith that it will certainly take place.
Therefore write it down clearly, put it somewhere you can see it.
Put it somewhere accessible so you can always refer back to it.

Also when resetting these goals, I want us to aspire to achieve the best version of it. So as I mentioned, no sub-standards, and no short-lived goals (e.g. I’ll see if I can give up smoking for a month first) – No, I want us to run with the biggest version of the vision, then intricately plan towards how we will get there step by step.

Rather than think small to start off with and then settle if things don’t work out, saying ‘It was only meant to be for a month anyway’,
Think big, then plan towards it, and with God as your guide, you will surely get there.

I mustn’t end this message without saying congratulations and well done to the people who have stuck to their New Year plans – I pray for a continued strength for you month after month, year after year, and I pray that whatever you have given up or taken up, will remain as it ought to be in order to always please the Most High God, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

One thing we should all remember is that even if today doesn’t go to plan, let us not wait until next month, or next year to give it another shot.
Each new day provides a new grace and a fresh opportunity for us to get it right.
So friend, please keep going with your dreams and visions, and no matter how long it takes, keep working hard to become the best version of you there is!

I’m rooting for you, and praying for you.

Keep the Faith, Don’t Stop Believing
God Bless you.

My Help

Let’s read:

“I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.”
[Psalm 121:1-2]

This affirmation is beautiful.
But how many of us truly believe that our help comes from God?
How many of us remember that God is actually there to help us?
How many of us accept His help when He sends it?

I ask these questions in the hope that we would each search ourselves for our personal response and then adapt our ways and just stop cheating ourselves of God’s gracious mercy.

1 – How many of us truly believe that our help comes from God?
“It just happened…”
“I got lucky…”
“By coincidence…”

Can I tell you that God knows every single thing about you – from the tiniest strand of hair on your head, to the soles of your feet, to the dinner you ate, and the time you brushed your teeth – God knows everything!
Therefore nothing that happens to you is simply by coincidence, or ‘just happens’.
If you have a look at the bible, it tells us that God has already written every single thing concerning us, way before we even took our first breath, or first step;

“…all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.”
[Psalm 139:16]

(Also read the whole of Psalm 139)

God who made you, is always looking out for you and this is something the bible reminds us of more than once – (Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5).
So please friend, rather than attributing things to chance, just take a moment to reflect a bit more, and begin to acknowledge the Grace, Mercy and Help of God in your life.

2 – How many of us remember that God is actually there to help us?
Trust me, I know…
I know how hard it can get, how cloudy it can get, how confusing it can be, how low you can reach at times, that even to look up no longer seems like an option.
But please, I encourage you to look up! And remember that you know a Living God who works miracles – He’s done many things before, and He’ll surely do much more.

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all your works

and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
[Psalm 77:11-12]

(Read all of Psalm 77 when you get a chance)

No matter how bad it may seem, you have to remember that there is nothing impossible for the Omnipotent (All-Powerful) God.

“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”
[Jeremiah 32:17

And I haven’t missed out those of us who forget God simply because we’re too busy trying to figure things out logically, or practically – please be reminded that Wisdom and Power are His – Daniel 2:19-20, Proverbs 3:19-20 – God knows exactly what to do and how to do it! (And His way will definitely be better than ours).

3 – How many of us accept His help when He sends it?
Now this refusal of God’s help can be down to many things; pride, lack of clarity that it’s actually from Him, denial that you need help at all (acting like it’s all okay), trying to do things ‘practically’ (as mentioned above), or simply because we believe we don’t need it/Him.

Whatever our reasoning may be, I want us to rethink our decision and have a read of the various verses above that not only prove how ‘qualified’ God is to help us, but they actually show us how worthy God is of honour and praise! (And I don’t mean to belittle God by calling Him qualified, because He is Almighty, but I hope you get what I mean).
We should realise that we are truly privileged that He cares enough to always come when we cry (Psalm 46:1).

I want to remind you that we mustn’t be foolish to think that we can do it all alone, or that we don’t need God, for the bible tells us to,

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
[Proverbs 3:5]

Finally, I want to encourage you to go back and read the whole of Psalm 121  (I know, quite a lot of reading in this one) and in case this part skipped your eye, I want you to notice that verse 2 says ‘the Lord who made heaven and earth’, pointing out the fact that His ability to help you is Limitless.
This should tell you then, that He is simply the best place to run to; no-one above Him, no-one better than Him, and most importantly, no-one who knows you like He does!

So here’s a task,
“My help comes from the Lord” – say it out loud to yourself over and over again, and make sure that it sticks so strongly in your mind, that you don’t for one second again, try to do this problem-solving thing (or anything!) without Him.

Keep the Faith, Don’t Stop Believing
God Bless you.

Embrace YOUR Relationship With God

How amazing is it that each person’s relationship with God is exclusively unique?
God does not share the same relationship He has with you, with anyone else.

So tell me, why do we always seem to weigh up our relationship with God, against everyone else’s.

Jenny prays twice a day.
Emma fasts every week.
James has been on a pilgrimage.
Dan has read the bible cover to cover…

What other points have you highlighted from someone ELSE’s relationship with God?
Why does it matter so much to you?

We get so caught up in how other people choose to worship God and build up their relationship with Him, that we don’t invest enough time and effort into understanding exactly what and how God wants us to develop our own.

Yes, in life it is quite normal for us to see what others are doing, and use it as an encouragement to be better, however when being like so and so becomes our sole focus, we end up creating unnecessary pressure for ourselves, which results in us becoming ineffective even in what we were able to do before.

In our relationship with God, it can be the same.
When we see our brothers and sisters at a certain level in their walk with Christ, or when someone describes a method of prayer/worship that ‘brings results’, we desire to experience the same thing, so we adopt their methods and we copy.

But to copy, is to imitate, and it is at this point that we lose the authenticity that we ought to have when worshipping and fellowshipping with God.

It is worth asking ourselves why we’re copying in the first place.
Is it because we truly want to move forward in God, or is it because we want to look good, look holy, and look ‘right up there with God’ to others?

Let us remember that God searches the heart, and knows the intentions behind our actions – Proverbs 16:2, 1 Chronicles 28:9.

The bible also tells us that God desires us to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth;

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
[John 4:24]

Therefore we should realise that in the midst of our copying and trying to do it Jenny’s way, we lose the truth.
In fact we may find that gradually, we feel less fulfilled when we communicate with God, because what we’re doing simply does not work for us.

Don’t get me wrong, it is absolutely beautiful for us to desire to know God better, and love Him better.
But rather than pursuing a relationship with God that looks like someone else’s, let us simply desire to be the type of men and women that God seeks out; men and women after God’s heart – 1 Samuel 13:14.
Seeking God’s heart is something we should definitely long to do, because this is someone who God can trust to do His will.

“And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’”
[Acts 13:22]

The more we seek God’s heart, the more we will grow in intimacy with Him.
As we grow in intimacy with Him, God Himself will reveal the different ways in which He desires for us to worship Him, serve Him, and live for Him.
Not only will we have restoration of authenticity in our relationship, but very simply put, our relationship with God, will be Special.

Finally, I want us to remember, that no matter how big we describe God to be, He still definitely cares about ‘little ol’ you’, and He truly does understand you – every detail about you.

So whatever your relationship with God looks like at the moment, embrace it.
Yes, you should forever strive to get closer to God, but strive to get closer in your own special way, not anyone else’s.
You aren’t competing with Emma, James or Dan, so simply focus on having an exclusive and genuine relationship between you and the God who made you.

Gracious Words; Speak Life!

“I’m blunt”,
“I say it how it is”,
“I’ll tell him or her about themselves”.

These are statements that some of us may take pride in making,  believing that this form of ‘honesty’ is a good thing – actually, it can be extremely ineffective.

Let’s read:

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
[Ephesians 4:29]

I appreciate that you desire to be ‘honest’, and want to address an issue that you may have observed concerning your neighbour, however it is important for us to consider a few things before we speak;

  • Their emotions – how will they feel after you say it, in the way you want to say it?
  • Is it your place? Is it appropriate for the comment/critique/statement to come from you in particular? (Think of your relationship with this person – will it be better if someone else addresses it?)
  • Will it benefit them? Will it help them to change something negative into positive? Or will it simply just be something you point out (possibly spitefully) and then it’s just left in the air?
  • Are you able to be constructive in providing a suggestion of how they could improve or change the habit/behaviour/attitude/issue (if applicable)?
  • What is the best way to say this thing, in order for the individual to receive it in love and desire to act/reflect on what you have said?

We must learn to differentiate between when we are doing something for ourselves and when it is truly for the benefit of others and the glory of God.
Yes, we have the responsibility as the body of Christ to point things out and correct one another, however the bible tells us to speak the truth in Love! – Ephesians 4:15.
This means your comment/correction should not come with the intention to put someone down, but rather to help better them and contribute to their upliftment.

Along with the notion of, “It’s best for them to know”, we also commonly justify an impolite or insensitive comment with the fact that the truth will set us free.
However when Jesus said this in John 8:31-32, He was referring to the truth which lies in His word and in His teachings.
Therefore this verse does not justify you telling someone their dress is hideous, or their hair smells, because firstly, Jesus does not teach this – (He teaches us to Walk in Love); and secondly, many things we consider as ‘true’ are simply just our own opinions – therefore subjective.

When we just speak – we end up saying far more than we need to. But when we think first of the implications of our speech, revise what we are going to say and most importantly ask the Holy Spirit for direction before we speak, we will find that our words will indeed build up our brothers and sisters as the verse above advises us to.

Always remember,

“The tongue has the power of death and life, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
[Proverbs 18:21]

I believe this verse, in the most simple way, reminds us of the fact that the words we speak (whether into our own lives or into the lives of others) have the ability to produce completely opposite outcomes, depending on what we choose to say.

I pray each of us will choose words that bring life; into our relationships, finances, jobs, schools, and our entire lives.
Take that into this new week; ‘I choose to speak Life!’

Have a read of these verses, and let us use them as a foundation to ensure we know why we should endeavour keep our words as pure, positive and gracious as possible.

“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”
[Proverbs 16:24]

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”
[Colossians 4:6]

“A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.”
[Proverbs 15:4]

“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,”
[Matthew 12:36]

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
[Psalm 19:14]

Walking in Love

Love is Important.

Let’s read:

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

[‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:1-3‬‬]

The passage above makes us realise that love is above all things, and in fact Jesus indicates the importance of loving others in Mark 12:31, by telling us that it is one of the two greatest commandments.

Loving others doesn’t always have to be dramatic or extreme or a massive declaration.
It can be really simple and embedded into our everyday lives.

If we read further in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 we see what love is, and isn’t.
So if you were wondering how we can express love to our neighbours, you’ll find your answer there.

  • Love is patient – listen to others, don’t be fast to speak or react when conflict arises, give people a chance.
  • Love is kind – compliment people, hold the door open, donate time and/or money.
  • Love isn’t self-seeking, rather it is selfless – put others before yourself, consider the emotions of others before making certain decisions and taking certain actions.
  • Love doesn’t envy – be content with your own, and be glad to rejoice with others. Want good for others as you would want it for yourself.

Now, with so much emphasis on love and loving and all the rest of it, it’s worth briefly having a look at a few reasons why it is so important.

  1. Firstly God Himself, is Love1 John 4:8
Therefore as children of God, made in His image, we ought to desire to be Love also.
  2. Love is powerful; it conquers all things, covers all wrongs – 1 Peter 4:8, Proverbs 10:12, meaning that the love you show can bring peace, freedom, joy and so much positivity into this world, without you even knowing it.
Your simple act of love can cause someone to forget the negatives in their life and restore their hope.
  3. Our ability to love other people – human beings that we can see, is actually a way of showing God that we are truly capable of Loving He who is unseen – 1 John 4:20.

Finally, let us be mindful of the fact that it can be very easy to love those who love us.
Therefore we should make the conscious effort to remember to; love those who aren’t so nice to us – Luke 6:35, and even those we don’t know at all – Leviticus 19:33-34.

So Friends, with all that said, Let us love
With our words,
With our actions,
With our resources,
With a smile,
With a prayer,
With our whole hearts.

And let us ensure that our love is always genuine and sincereRoman 12:9.

Welcome and Happy New Year – 2017

Welcome

Heyyyyy… I gladly welcome you to Untainted Word.
It has definitely been a long time coming and I am so pleased that it is finally here and ready to be shared with you all.

For those who do not know, this is a step I have been meaning to take for many years, in terms of expanding how I share the inspirational, faith-based messages that I have been sending by text to my contacts for about 8/9 years now.

I have been encouraged by many people over the years to start a blog or just get these messages online somehow, and I finally have. (Thank you so much to everyone who planted those seeds, you can finally see them germinating).

I ask that you bear with me as everything is starting up, and I ask for your prayers; that this platform will serve its purpose in drawing people closer to God and leading souls to Christ.

It will definitely be expanding, by God’s grace, and in fact there are some interesting things to come in due time, but for now you can anticipate: Sunday’s Shaper; to conclude your week with a word that will enlighten, empower and enrich your mind with the right thoughts; enabling you to constructively reflect on the past week and equipping you with scripture to apply in the week ahead.
You can also look forward to Wednesday’s Wake-Up Call; a mid-week pick-me-up, to re-encourage, re-inspire and remind you of your ability to be excellent for the rest of the week.
The purpose of these messages is to bring attention to God’s truths – both His promises for us and His expectations of us as His children.

Hopefully, between here, and the Home and About pages, you will have a good enough idea of what Untainted Word is all about.
If there is anything else you would like to know, or in fact if you have general questions about the content you read in posts, or topic suggestions and so on, please head over to the Contact page, fill in the form and get in touch!

Anyway, enough of all that – please enjoy as you read the rest of the first post below – (a late, but valuable New Year’s message).

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!
Please pardon my lateness, I know we are 16 days in, but hey, the year is still pretty fresh, right?

2016 was many things for each of us.
It was filled with highs and lows, positives and negatives, fulfillments and disappointments.
For some it was their best year yet, for others it was the opposite, but one thing we can all say about 2016, regardless of our individual experience of it, is, it has gone.

Whether 2016 brought us joy or sorrow, it is now officially in the past.
And actually God says;

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”
[Isaiah 43:18]

Therefore, whilst it is wise to remember and improve from the lessons you learnt last year, it is very important for you to understand that there is absolutely nothing you can do to change anything that happened in it. That means friend, let it go and look forward to the new things.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
[Isaiah 43:19]

How apt is this promise of God for a new beginning?

One thing we should always remember about God’s word is that it doesn’t return to Him unfulfilled – [Isaiah 55:11], in other words, God sticks to His word and does what He says.
That therefore places the ball in our court; God gives us His word, but it is our choice to receive, believe and use it.

So the question now is, how many of us will accept this promise of God from Isaiah 43:18-19, and be determined and confident enough to actively pursue and achieve our goals in 2017?
How many of us will truly believe that God will make a way, and do a new thing for us this year?
If He tells you to let go of the old, in order to make room for the new, will you trust Him enough to obey?

Along with our New Year’s resolutions, it is worth ensuring that we also endeavour to walk closely with God, be led by Him, and be sensitive to the direction of the Holy Spirit.
I pray that we will hold on firmly to the word of God, and as we do, may 2017 be our most glorious and successful year yet, in Jesus’ Name.
Amen.

Happy New Year friends
Make this year whatever you want it to be!
